Oculus Rift priced – you may want to start saving

Oculus announced the price tag of the Oculus Rift and it doesn't come cheap. The virtual reality headset will start shipping in March.

Oculus has announced that the first consumer model of the Oculus Rift will cost $600.

For that hefty price tag, you get the Oculus Rift VR headset, Oculus Remote, cables, Xbox One Controller, EVE: Valkyrie, and Lucky's Tale. It’s also worth bearing in mind that you’ll need a pretty powerful PC to make use of the Oculus Rift, so you may need to factor that into your total spend.

While there was plenty of speculation about the Rift’s price tag in the run up to this announcement, Oculus managed to keep things under wraps. CEO Palmer Luckey did reveal in October that it would cost more than $350, but clearly he was being pretty conservative.

Preorders are now being accepted for the virtual reality headset, which Oculus maintains will ship in March.
