Nissan shows off Qashqai controller for Pro Evo Soccer

Nissan has shown off Project Controller, its project to turn the Nissan Qashqai into a controller for Pro Evo Soccer.

Nissan turned its Qashqai into a video game controller as part of Project Controller, an initiative in collaboration with UEFA, PlayStation and Konami.

It brought a number of Pro Evo fans, professional YouTubers, motorsport journalists, and professional racers together to show off this novel controller.

The Nissan Qashqai is used to control a player’s movements in game. The brake and accelerator is used to pass and shoot respectively, the wheel is used to move players left and right, while the indicator stalk is called upon to move them up and down.

Professional Nismo racing driver, Jann Mardenborough, summed it up nicely by saying that it’s like tapping your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time. It seems tricky to get used to a whole new control scheme, but we imagine it feels great to score even the simplest of goals like this.

Check out the video below to see how Project Controller works and what the players thought of it. We doubt it’ll be replacing our PlayStation 4 or Xbox One pad anytime soon, but it’s certainly a novel approach.
