This year's Call of Duty is being tipped to be set in the distant future with a sci-fi feel and perhaps even space combat.

Call of Duty is to explore a more futuristic setting, according to rumours that have cropped up online.

NeoGAF user shinobi602, who seems to have a good track record when it comes to knowing Call of Duty details in advance, said that this year’s title will be set in the “very far future.” The game, according to the user, will be “full on sci-fi” and will feature space combat.

This user previously revealed that Black Ops 3 would feature wall-running and cybernetics, and that it would be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with a studio other than Treyarch handling it.

Some Call of Duty fans have been hoping that the series would focus more on present day settings or perhaps even dive into the past once more. But that doesn’t look like it’s going to be the case this year at least.
