New PS4 update brings back USB music playback and more!
The Sony PlayStation 4 has received a new system software update with enhanced remote play and some hidden extra features
The PS4 just got a new firmware update to version 3.50, bringing in some marquee features like the ability to use Remote Play on PC and Mac computers. It's also home to a bunch of elements which fans have been asking for since the PS4 launched, like actionable notifications when your friends come online and the ability to create an event and invite players ahead of time. Here's some shouting about the update.
That sounds like plenty to be getting on with but it seems like Sony has kept a few fun secrets, and these folks on Reddit are figuring them out. One is that the USB music player is back - this very useful feature from the PS3 era let you plug in any USB stick or hard drive and access music with ease. It just takes a little effort - make sure your songs are located in a folder called 'Music' on the drive and then plug it in. Once you go into the Media Player in the main list of apps, you'll see the folder. And the tracks will play as you browse around menus.
And it turns out that you can also now use hard drives up to 4TB in size, that's a heck of a boost given the biggest version you can buy inside a PS4 is 1TB. Get the system software update for free right now.
