Samsung came out swinging at Mobile World Congress 2016 with two major new hardware releases that will be sure to appeal to fans

Samsung got in early on the Mobile World Congress 2016 madness with the announcement of not one but two major flagships which are set to arrive in March 2016.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are gorgeous devices and they're got some of the fastest specs around. They're both glass and metal constructions with the big difference being screen size - the S7 has a 5.1 inch display and the Edge a 5.5 inch panel with all the curves we've come to expect from that new name. Great returning features include water and weather proofing and a microSD slot for extra storage, something that's always welcome.

Both screens are Quad HD Super AMOLED panels at 2560x1440 pixels - that's probably more than on your TV! The Galaxy S6 range featured one of the best cameras around and Samsung wants to retain that crown by doing things a little differently. The rear camera is now rated at 12 megapixels which is a smaller number than last year but it has been enhanced with a larger image sensor and an aperture in the lens of f1.7.

That means the low light performance has seen a massive boost, with the ability to produce bright and clear images in challenging conditions. You'll even be able to produce gorgeous depth of field effects and fast focussing makes sure you'll never miss a shot. There's a 5MP front facing camera for those all important selfies.

There's Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board (as expected) and with 4 gigs of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad core processor there's plenty of overhead for even the most demanding games and apps. Both phones have an always on mode (which can be deactivated) which leaves vital information on the screen at all times and both models have had a boost in battery life - the S7 to 3000mAh and the S7 Edge to a massive 3600mAh. That's very good news indeed.

The curved part of the Edge's screen now has more functionality with room for 10 easy access shortcuts to apps, contacts or whatever you like and it doesn't hurt that the curve makes it a joy to hold.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are set to debut in March 2016, more info as we get it.
