Lawbreakers shooter isn't free anymore

The guy behind the original Gears of War, Cliff Bleszinski, has a new game in the works and it's getting some changes

Cliff Bleszinski is a name you might know - he's the guy behind hits like Unreal Tournament, Gears of War and the always fun Bulletstorm. So you should probably sit up and take notice of his new title, Lawbreakers.

This game was a mytery for a long time until being revealed as an online, PC only shooter in late 2015. That's not particularly suprising in the current world of videogames but it was interesting to hear that the game was set to be a free to play title. Now it isn't anymore.

Cliffy B was at the Game Developers Conference and announced that the game isn't free to play anymore, and that's because gamers aren't too trusting of titles that claim to be free. They're constantly wondering how the game makes money, and keeping in mind negative things like microtransactions. Going paid also makes things easier for the developer because it lets them break free of monetising every aspect of the experience.

It was also announced that the game had a new art style, with a more grounded look and feel than before, as well as what Bleszinski calls a more 'M-rated' look. This is to help the title contrast to the glut of cartoonish and stylised shooters which are on the way. See the screenshot above. The game will also be emerging exclusively on Steam, which just makes a lot of sense as the most popular PC playing platform out there.

There's no release date yet for Lawbreakers but expect it to arrive before the end of 2016.
