Huawei announces record-breaking sales in January

Emma Clark

Huawei recorded a strong performance in 2015 and topped it off with record-breaking sales in January 2016. All eyes will be on Huawei at MWC this year.

Huawei has released sales figures for January 2016, and it was quite a bumper month for the smartphone manufacturer.

Not only did it ship 12 million smartphones last month, but it sold 93% more smartphones in January 2016 than it did in January 2015. Last month also marked the fourth consecutive month in which Huawei sold more than 10 million handsets.

Overall, Huawei had a good year, shipping 108 million smartphones in 2015 and seeing 44% year-on-year growth.

Its impressive performance in recent months was certainly aided by the release of the P8 Lite handset in Europe nine months ago. It has shipped more than 10 million of the handsets and Huawei says that the P8 series smartphones have reached a cumulative 16 million people across the globe.

Huawei will be hoping to record an equally impressive year in 2016. It will certainly be interesting to see what they announce at Mobile World Congress.
