HTC may manufacture future Nexus devices

Mark O'Beirne

HTC has reportedly signed on to manufacture all Google Nexus devices over the next three years, though nothing official has been announced.

Google has switched up who gets to manufacture its Nexus devices in recent years, but that may come to an end soon as it's being reported that HTC has been selected as the sole Nexus manufacturer for the next three years.

A report has appeared online that says that HTC will produce all Nexus phones as part of a three year deal. Last year, two Nexus devices were released, one from Huawei and one from LG, and it looks like HTC will do the same this year.

The deal doesn't mention tablets, which implies that Google is moving away from slates or is looking towards other manufacturers to handle a tablet.

HTC's last involvement with the Nexus line was 2014's Nexus 9 tablet. It will be interesting to see how it handles a Nexus contract that stretches over a few years.
