Google Play Music now offers podcasts

Google today announced that it is rolling out the ability to find, subscribe to, and download podcasts from Google Play Music.

Google today announced that podcasts are finally coming to Google Play Music.

The store is trying to make it as easy as possible to not only download podcasts, but to find ones of interest. It is separating podcasts into contextual categories such as “How To Do Everything,” “Stuff You Should Know,” “Laughing Out Loud,” and “Learn Something New,” among others.

Google explained this decision in a blog post. "Similar to our contextual playlists for music, we want to make it easy to find the right podcast - whether you're a podcast aficionado or listening for the first time," it wrote.

Of course, you’ll still be able to search for a particular podcast. When you subscribe to a podcast, the last few episodes will be downloaded to your device. You can also choose to get notifications whenever a new episode becomes available.

Google is rolling out this feature in the US and Canada initially, but podcast listeners further afield will be hoping to see it added to the Google Play Store in their region soon.
