Sony Computer Entertainment has released a statement confirming the closing of Evolution Studios with the loss of many jobs

Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that they are shutting down Chesire based Evolution Studios with immediate effect.

The company has been around since 1999 and became one of the biggest names in racing with the WRC and MotorStorm franchises. Acquired by Sony in 2007, three MotorStorm titles since then and also the most recent game Driveclub.

That latter title was surely part of the decision to shutter the studio, with lengthy developmental delays and a less than stellar launch. The game has improved significantly since then and has picked up many fans but it seems the damage was already done.

Sony says it will try to shuffle staff around within the organisation but admits that redundancies will be necessary. For their part, Evolution are taking the news in a positive way, looking to their achivements in the past and a bright future for everyone involved.

And fans are having their say as well, with many gutted that the studio won't be involved with Driveclub anymore.

We wish all the staff at Evolution the very best in the future, you're sure to see their names again. In the meantime, Sony will be taking over all things Driveclub so hopefully it all goes smoothly.
