Facebook may launch its new standalone news app, Notify, as soon as next week. It will feature news from CNN, Buzzfeed, The Washington Post, and more.

Facebook's standalone breaking news app, Notify, may be available as soon as next week.

Facebook has partnered up with news outlets such as Vogue, The Washington Post, CNN, Buzzfeed, and Mashable, according to The Financial Times. Users will be able to select certain news sources and then receive notifications for breaking news.

Notify is entering a competitive and crowded market. It will face competition from the likes of Twitter's recently launched Moments, Snapchat's Discover, and possibly even Flipboard, Inside, Yahoo News Digest and Apple News.

It's currently unclear how partners are selected for Notify or how it will affect news outlets that currently post stories on Facebook.

There's no official word on when Notify will be released, but it could be as soon as next week.
