Facebook is testing Snapchat-like disappearing messages

Facebook is experimenting with a new feature that would see messages disappear after an hour.

This new feature is currently being tested in France. Facebook says that "disappearing messages gives people another fun option to choose from when they communicate on Messenger."

If the feature is available, Facebook users will see an hourglass icon in the top right hand corner of the screen in Messenger. Tapping on this means that the message will disappear after an hour of being sent.

This is quite different to Snapchat's approach whereby messages are deleted after a short period of time, but only after they're viewed.

If this test goes well, it's likely that Facebook will roll out this feature further afield.
