Horror director Eli Roth has put together a really creepy short film which captures the tone of the upcoming game Dark Souls III

Eli Roth is best known as the man behind the Hostel series and that fellow with the baseball bat in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. Now he's teamed up with the makers of Dark Souls III to bring another terrifying vision to life.

The filmmaker was given free rein to create an animated short that would get across the tone of the upcoming action title, and he went to town with the creepy stuff for The Witches. Check out the short here. This is definitely not safe for work or the eyes of young ones.

That's pretty intense stuff, and quite gleefully different to what we normally see in Souls. Is this suggesting that some of the monsters you face used to be brave adventurers like you, twisted by darkness into little more than beasts? Or is it just an excuse for some cool animation and the all important forced removal of an eyeball? It wouldn't be a Roth film without that.

You can hear from the director himself in the behind the scenes video over here which confirms that he's a fan of the series and could do whatever he liked with the short. Will it make more people want to buy Dark Souls III? That's hard to know, but it's out in April if you're interested.
