Check if your PC is ready for VR with Valve's Portal-themed SteamVR Performance Test

Emma Clark

Valve has released its Portal-themed SteamVR Performance Test that checks if your PC is ready for the upcoming release of virtual reality.

Valve has published a tool on Steam that checks if your PC is capable of running virtual reality. The best part about it is that it’s Portal themed!

The SteamVR Performance Test "measures your system's rendering power using a two-minute sequence from Valve's Aperture Robot Repair VR demo.”

Valve explained, "After collecting the data it determines whether your system is capable of running VR content at 90fps and whether VR content can tune the visual fidelity up to the recommended level. For machines that are not VR Ready the tool can help determine whether capabilities are bound by Graphics Card, CPU, or both."

You can see the test in action in the video below, courtesy of ValveTime. The description notes that this is a cut down version of the test with lower fidelity, fixed camera angles, no sound effects, and no interactivity. You can test your own PC with the tool available from Steam.
