CES 2016 GoPro to release consumer ready 360 degree camera
The action camera company GoPro looks set to move even more into the 360 degree camera space with a new product aimed at consumers
GoPro has put out a good range of products over the last two years and they're set to expand that lineup even more in 2016 and beyond.
Company CEO Nick Woodman has confirmed at CES 2016 that GoPro is working on a new 360 degree camera. That's not new information in itself, they have a few such rigs available right now, the difference is that this will be aimed at consumers.
That means a much lower price point and, hopefully, real ease of use and this is a pretty significant milestone for the burgeoning industry of interactive video. With the rise of virtual reality, there is going to be a real market for this kind of content and GoPros past experience means they have a huge advantage in this field. Not to mention the fact that they're a trusted brand and the leading player in the action camera field.
There was no further information on availability of this product but with the two major VR headsets - the Rift and HTC Vive - set for release before the middle of 2016 expect more news soon.
