Audi brings in an iconic David Bowie song and our dreams of space travel in their big Superbowl ad for the Audi R8

The Superbowl is definitely some kind of sporting event but it's also a place where some of the biggest companies in the world bank on millions of guaranteed eyeballs by paying for some of the most expensive advertisement airtime around.

With an audience of well over 100 million people in America alone, it's estimated that a 30 second spot could cost as much a $5 million. So these companies have to make sure every second counts. You can see that ethos in full effect with Audi's add which brings in emotions, the space race, a slick car and even David Bowie to grab our attention.

Check it out.

It's a very glossy spot, tying into the fact that space travel is a nostalgic dream for many of us now, removed by many decades from the most exciting action. You can relive it for a few moments here, while we look forward to actually getting men and women back in space again in the near future.

You could see it as an old man being allowed to drive a very fast car while hallucinating, which makes it a little bit edgier...

The Audi R8 costs around $160,000.
