The Assassin's Creed series may not be getting a full fat release this year but that doesn't mean you'll be missing out on murders

We've been hearing that the Assassin's Creed series won't be delivering up a full game release this year, for the first time since 2008, while it seeks a bit of a reboot in 2017. But that doesn't mean you'll be missing out entirely on the action.

The Assassin's Creed Chronicles series started in 2015 and then quite abruptly stalled. Now it's back, with two releases planned for the new year. The first is Assassin's Creed Chronicles India which takes players back to the year 1841 and into the nimble body of Arbaaz Mir as he seeks to rescue the woman he loves from some evil doers.

Here's a commented trailer for the new game, which is a 2.5D adventure rather than the full 3D of the main games in the series.

Right now this is looking a lot like the 3D remaster of Prince of Persia (in its art style, not geography!) and we're very ok with that. The animations and levels look great and it seems like there's plenty of variety in the gameplay, especially for what promises to be a relatively short adventure, at least compared to the main franchise titles.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles China is already out and the India incarnation is out on the 12th of January 2016.
