Apple may be working on VR in secret

Apple is apparently working on a virtual reality headset in secret. Apple has reportedly hired a team of experts and developed prototypes.

With HTC, Samsung, and Sony working on VR headsets, and Microsoft focusing on augmented reality, all eyes are on Apple to see what it'll come out with.

Apple CEO Tim Cook admitted in recent weeks that virtual reality is "not a niche" and does have "some really interesting applications." Apple has also made some VR-related hires of late.

But apparently it's more than a pipe dream. According to CNBC, Apple has assembled a large team of experts and has even built prototypes of headsets.

In the past, Apple has been willing to see how consumers react to new technology before releasing a product of its own. It's quite likely that it'll be waiting in the wings to see how this year's VR headsets fare when released to the public.
