Android N preview shows off new emoji and features
A new Android N developer preview has been released, which includes some new features, redesigned emoji, and bug fixes.
Android N is yet to be shown off to the masses, but a new developer preview has given us an indication of what is to come.
One of the big new features is called Launcher shortcuts. This allows apps and developers to define shortcuts, which users can access in the launcher to enable them to do things quicker. For example, you’ll be able to tell a mapping app that you want directions home, or send a message to a certain person.
Android N will also see emoji looking a little less generic and a bit more human. The update also introduces support for skin tone variations and Unicode 9 glyphs. You can see the new emoji design below.
Finally, there’s the usual array of bug fixes and minor improvements, as you would expect.
The latest developer preview for Android N is available for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9 and Pixel C tablet.
