Twitterati were left twiddling their thumbs this evening as the social media platform crashed.
"Something is technically wrong," was the error message from the site which went down around 7.45pm.
Twitter technicians reported that the issue would be resolved shortly and "things will be back to normal soon".
The Twitter outage map indicated that the service was down over most of Europe and in several eastern parts of North America and Canada.
Users posted to this outage site complaining that they had no access to tweets or have the facility to tweet themselves.
'Is this the end of the world?' Shawn Smith in Ontario asked.
Service resumed to many users within minutes of the initial outage.
