Sole traders and small businesses drive increase in dot.ie domain names

SOLE traders and small business have driven a 12pc increase in the number of dot.ie domain names in the first quarter of the year.

According to IE Domain Registry, 9,398 new domains were registered in the three months to March – this compared with 8,694 in the same period of 2011.

“We’re really pleased with the growth in dot-ie domain registration figures in the first three months of the year,” said IEDR chief executive David Curtin, who added that the beginning of the year can be a tough time for businesses.

A total of 177,720 dot-ie domain names have been registered to date.
