Incense has become a crutch for Pokemon Go trainers stuck at home - a way to attract Pokemon in relative dead zones far away from Pokestops and Lure Modules.

Unfortunately though, this tactic is incredibly wasteful, so now’s the time to stop using it.

A Reddit user crawled the game’s code and found this pertinent section (below), which essentially reveals that Incense spawns 1 Pokemon every 5 minutes while standing still and 1 Pokemon every 1 minute/200 metres while moving.

“Damn I shouldn't have wasted all my free ones while sitting inside my house,” one commenter lamented.

Another player who had been doing the same added: "I have a pokestop across the street, just barely too far to reach from inside the house, it's infuriating."
