Setanta Sports to launch mobile phone service in Ireland this year

Irish pay TV broadcaster Setanta Sports is to launch a mobile phone service in Ireland by the end of the year.

According to the Irish Times, the company is curently in talks with 3 Ireland about becoming a so-called mobile virtual network operator (MVNO).

This would involve Setanta jumping onto 3’s network but using its own brand to offer the mobile services to customers.

It is understood that the two companies have been in talks on a deal for the past couple of months.

Setanta is to offer Setanta Go, an app/online player that will serve as a second screen service to its subscribers.
