Power-hungry data centres are placing a strain on Ireland's energy-producing capacity and transmission networks - especially around the capital.

Ireland is a popular global location for data centres, with companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and others investing heavily in such infrastructure here.

But Eirgrid, the semi-state company responsible for the network, has already warned that extra generation capacity may be needed in Dublin in the short-term to deal with the associated power demand.
