Networks for businesses, what are you waiting for? Publish!

Paul O'Mahony

LAST Wednesday, new statistics were published showing that Ireland has the highest percentage of Facebook users in the English speaking world.

It makes up 63 per cent of all Irish social media activity. Twitter came in with 13 per cent and both Linkedin and Google Plus combined with less than one per cent.

Rather than looking at why that is or how the numbers were calculated, let us now focus on what this means to you, the business owner?

First and foremost, you must have a Facebook presence for your business regardless of whether it is aimed at other businesses or consumers. I am not referring to a Facebook account but rather a Facebook "page". Open a Facebook page – showcase your brand, bring your products and services to life with pictures and videos and initiate discussion. Irish people are sitting there waiting – so why wait any longer?

Perhaps the best news of all lies in the meagre 13 per cent of social media activity spent on Twitter. Businesses in Ireland already derive huge benefit from Twitter. With the enormous room for increased interaction and engagement lies an incredible opportunity. Open a Twitter account for your business and start the conversation!
