More than one third of Vodafone Ireland customers have smartphones

VODAFONE Ireland said today that 37.7pc of its customers now have smartphones – a 59pc hike on last year.

The mobile operator had 2.46m subscriptions in the year ended March while 2.2m are mobile subscribers.



Average revenue per user fell 3.4pc to €31.20 in the quarter ended March 31.



The company said it invested €120m in its network in the past year.



Parent Vodafone said revenues were up 1.4pc to £46.4bn for the year.



Chief executive Vittorio Calao said the company had free cash flow of £6.1bn after capital expenditure of £6.4bn.



“Our focus on the key growth areas of data, emerging markets and enterprise is positioning us well in a difficult macroeconomic environment,” he said,



“Our commercial performance and our ability to leverage scale continue to be strong, enabling us to gain or hold market share in most of our key markets, and reduce the rate of margin decline.”
