I was wrong about self-driving cars. Six years ago, I believed the promises from car companies that autonomous vehicles would properly be on our roads within a decade.

Uber claimed there would be 75,000 of them by 2019. Tesla promised a fleet by 2020. Even Ford’s CEO, who I interviewed in early 2016, was bullish.
