Apple AirTag (attached to luggage)

How can you watch your Netflix series in a foreign Airbnb? What will see you through a delay at the airport? And is it possible to avoid getting gouged when using your smartphone abroad? Here are 10 useful devices and services to enhance a summer holiday, either abroad or in Ireland.

1. AirTag (€35)

It’s one thing to be able to find your misplaced keys or wallet or bag around the house. But the real value of Apple’s AirTag on holidays is luggage: stick one inside your bag and you’ll have a decent idea where it is most of the time. This can prove especially useful if there’s some confusion over lost luggage. The way the AirTag works is through Apple’s ‘Find My’ network — anyone with an iPhone walking by it will detect it and you’ll get an anonymous notification showing the gadget’s location on a map. You can also make it beep if it’s within Bluetooth range (10 to 15 metres) of your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
