Online retailer eBay has announced plans to shed 2,400 jobs, representing seven per cent of its global workforce.
The jobs are to be cut in the coming months.
eBay and its online payment subsidiary, PayPal, employ approximately 2,500 people in Dublin and Dundalk.
It's not yet clear whether jobs in the Irish operations will be affected.
PayPal was founded in the late 1990s and went public in 2002.
It was acquired by eBay soon afterward for $1.5bn.
PayPal had 143 million active users at the end of 2013, up 16pc from a year earlier.
