Three Ireland has seen its earnings before interest, tax and depreciation surge by 22pc to €94m in the six months to June 2018.

The increase was driven by a rise in customer numbers to 2.1 million, as well as an 11pc reduction in operating costs at Ireland’s second largest mobile operator.

The strong performance in earnings came despite a 4pc decline in its customer service margin, which the company part blamed on new EU roaming regulation.

In a statement today Three said that it continues with its ambitious network investment plan with capital expenditure of €62m in the first half of 2018, and that it now has over 97pc population coverage for 4G with average speeds of 20mbps.

Overall data traffic on the Three Ireland network has increased by 50pc year-on-year and the group’s data roaming traffic is up 280pc year-on-year.
