Dead will outnumber the living on Facebook in 50 years
THE number of dead Facebook members will outnumber the amount of those living in about 50 years, new research suggests.
According to research by XKCD, in about 2065 the amount of dead members of the site will outnumber the living, if Facebook stops growing.
If its user base continues to grow at its current level, which is unlikely, it would be 2130 before the shift occurs.
Facebook doesn’t delete dead users’ information – maintaining the pages on the site doesn’t cause huge strain on its infrastructure.
Facebook makes up 63pc of Irish social-media activity, twice as much as all other social-media sites combined.
The figure puts Irish Facebook activity higher than that in the UK (55pc) and significantly higher than that in the US (47pc).
Australia (61pc) and New Zealand (58pc) are closer to Irish social-media reliance on Facebook.
studies have shown the number of monthly Irish Facebook users at 2.25 million, with over half of those using the site every day.
