Cork's CIX data centre has expanded with a €6m investment.

The new data hall is one of two new buildings at CIX in Hollyhill in Cork, which are doubling the footprint of the privately operated data centre in Cork, and bring a 500pc increase in connectivity capacity.

As part of the expansion, CIX will create 15 new jobs in Cork, Canada, and India over the next three years.

"We have invested and innovated to provide the best connectivity combined with the highest standards of service for our clients," CIX chief executive Jerry Sweeney said.

"Today sees the expansion of our physical data centre as well as a massive increase in our connectivity capacity, which will provide some of the fastest connectivity in Ireland."

CIX is also expanding into international markets, as it invests in operations in Canada and India.

As part of the expanded data centre opening today, CIX also announced that the data centre plans to be powered entirely by renewable energy by 2020.
