Chromebook at too high a cost

Google Chromebook Pixel 2 Price: from €1,000 Rating: ***

At €300, a Chromebook is great value. It's fast, simple and really well designed. But €1,000? That's a different proposition. Will anyone spend that much on a laptop that needs a constant web connection to work effectively? The new 13-inch Chromebook Pixel has upped its engine to include a Core i7 chip and up to 16GB of Ram. It also has a very high resolution screen and a sparkling new 'USB C' port, of the type being adopted in Apple's new MacBook. But it's not as light as some rivals and only comes with 32GB or 64GB of storage. It's a gorgeous device. But it's a hard sell going up against Dell's XPS 13 or Apple's MacBook Air, which cost around the same.
