Ministers are expected to give the green light for the National Broadband Plan to continue today after they finally receive a review of the bidding process.

Communications Minister Richard Bruton has withheld the report by independent auditor Peter Smyth from his colleagues for more than a week so that those named in it could assess it first.

However, the Irish Independent understands it will be published today after the Cabinet is briefed.

Sources suggest it will find the project can go ahead despite private meetings between ex-minister Denis Naughten and businessman David McCourt, head of the only consortium left in the running for the contract.
