Best Buy....Cordless Vacuum Cleaners
Small, compact and perfect for a quick clean. There's a range of cordless cleaners on the market with some making vacuuming a relatively pain-free experience. We check out what it's like to vacuum without knotting oneself up in a flex or straying so far from the socket it continually cuts off
Electrolux Ergorapido €140
THIS compact cordless vacuum cleaner is lightweight (2.4kg), has a detachable handheld vac that clips in and out, and is easy to move about and empty.
Its slimline size makes it just as easy to store, while its neat base – used to charge the vac – can be wall-mounted or freestanding.
It picked up a fair amount of dust and pet hair, while the detachable handheld unit was useful for cleaning the car or sucking up crumbs.
You get an estimated 16 minutes vacuuming after 16 hours of charging.
Hoover Unplugged €280
THIS cordless vacuum gives 60 minutes of battery time after four hours of charging. Again, it was easy to put together, cleaned well on hard and soft floors, and was simple to empty.
However, it's not quite as easy to manoeuvre around corners, furniture and on the stairs as some cleaners. It is also a little heavier at 3.8kg.
Unlike the Ergorapido it does not have a stand and instead recharges via a plug at the back, making this free-standing machine easy to store.
Dyson DC59 €400
YOU would expect the pricey DC59 Digital Slim to be easy to use and have powerful suction – which it definitely has.
Its 20 minutes running time and small canister may make it suited for small homes, but it somehow managed to zoom through a fully carpeted large family home (with two fluffy pet dogs), sucking up everything in its path, before time ran out.
The 2kg Digital Slim comes with a detachable tube – turning it in to a handheld vacuum cleaner – and a range of tools.
