APPLE'S senior vice president of retail and online sales Angela Ahrendts was the best-paid female executive in the US last year.

Ahrendts, 54, is the former boss of British fashion retailer Burberry and was paid $82.6m in 2014, according to Bloomberg data.

She joined Apple in May 2014 and also became the first woman to make it onto the firm's management team.

Her base salary was $1m.

Her pay packet included a sign-on payment and a make-whole grant for bonuses left behind at Burberry.

Yahoo! Inc.’s Marissa Mayer was the best-paid female CEO in the US last year.

The 39-year-old was awarded $59.1m in 2014, making her No. 3 among the eight women on the Bloomberg Pay Index, a daily ranking of the top-paid US executives.

Oracle’s Safra Catz was second on the ranking after being awarded $71.2m in fiscal 2014 for her role as chief financial officer.

The Bloomberg pay ranking also calculates pay-for- performance using an executive’s compensation as a percentage of a company’s economic profit, defined as after-tax net operating profit minus its cost of capital.

By that measure, Apple’s Ahrendts delivered the best rating among all women on the ranking.
