Smiggle to open on Grafton St despite slowdown
Smiggle, the children's stationary group, is pressing ahead with plans for a new store on Dublin's Grafton Street despite a decision to ease off on aggressive expansion plans.
It has six stores on Ireland, but in recent days it has emerged that the chain - owned by Australian billionaire Solomon Lew - is seeking rent cuts from its landlords in the UK. Lew's Premier group opened 260 shops around the world last year, but closed over 80 outlets after landlords "failed to provide market rents in a changing industry".
Its plans for a new store on Dublin's Grafton Street had been held up by planners, but the company recently submitted a revised plan for its shop-front.
