Chupi Sweetman, the Irish designer behind the jewellery brand ‘Chupi’ has been designing and creating since she got her first Singer sewing machine at the age of five. Here she gives us an insight into her spending habits.

Spender or Saver?

It depends! I'm super virtuous day to day, I don't buy coffee, make my own lunch but I adore to travel as it adds so much value and really inspires me so I'm a spender there. We are to Nairobi, Portugal, Switzerland and NYC this year and I can't wait.

Biggest purchase to date?

Our honeymoon to Japan, it was incredible! We went for three weeks, it's such a magical country filled with so much beauty and the most incredible food.

Do you prefer cash or card?

I used to be cash but Apple Pay has revolutionised my life, I still track everything on an app called Spendee because I want to know what I'm spending and why

What are three things you couldn’t live without?

My wedding rings, I wear a stack of 5 rings on wedding finger from my engagement ring to an anniversary band and they mark such precious moments in my life I would be lost without them.

My dogs. Two tiny scruffy rescues who bring so much joy and push me out into the fresh air every weekend.

My passport. I'm lucky with my job I get to travel so much and it's such a pleasure to be in a new country with new tastes, smells and design.

What would be your largest monthly outgoing?

Food! I love to eat, whether it's cooking at home or eating out our gang of friends are very social. Also working in fashion I get to see so many beautiful clothes and jewels, it can be very dangerous.

What has been the best financial advice that you ever received?

Two things: Have a plan. Whether it's buying a house or saving for a big trip I always have a plan on the go. And buy the best, in a world where everything is disposable it's always best to get the most amazing quality as it will last so much longer. We make all of our jewellery to last a lifetime and I always have that idea in mind.
