Three-time Olympian and former world champion Derval O'Rourke has opened a new online shop - the latest initiative from her health and fitness membership site Derval.ie.

The e-commerce store at Shop.Derval.ie had a soft launch to members of the platform two weeks ago and within seven days it had surpassed all its pre-Christmas sales projections.

Set up in 2018, Derval.ie is a healthy-lifestyle platform with a subscription-based model that offers members access to live fitness classes, video content, expert advice and community support.

The new online shop sells O'Rourke's own products such as cookbooks and a new healthy lifestyle journal. In one week, the online shop sold 1,500 journals. It features content such as goal charts and motivational illustrations, nutritional advice and recipes to improve overall health.

"We could not believe the volume of sales we had in the first week alone; it has exceeded all expectations," said O'Rourke. "We are now open to the general public and we are projecting between 2,000 and 3,000 orders around our Black Friday event."

She plans to add products from other suppliers to the shop and to extend her own line of products in 2021.

There are now five full-time staff members at Derval.ie and the business has a subscription base of 8,000.

She is hoping to hire another two to three staff members in the lead-up to Christmas and plans to invest heavily in technology to improve its offerings in 2021.

O'Rourke's business partner is Greg O'Gorman, former marketing director of the Kilkenny Group .

O'Rourke is an ambassador for Going for Growth, a developmental programme which assists ambitious female entrepreneurs with scaling their businesses.

She was on the ninth cycle with Caroline Keeling as her lead entrepreneur.

The call is now open for applications for the 13th year of Going for Growth at www.goingforgrowth.com, which is supported by Enterprise Ireland and KPMG.
