Ireland's Halo Business Angel Network (HBAN) has scooped a prestigious award at the European Business Angel Network (EBAN) awards.

The group took home the European Game Changer Award at the Bulgaria event, which rewarded the expansion of their network across the globe this year.

In 2018, three international syndicates have been launched by HBAN, in London, Singapore and New York.

The organisation's growing international presence means that nearly €7m in extra funds is being made available to Irish start-ups.

Five ambitious firms, including Rubicoin, ProVerum Medical, and Deposify, have already seen the benefit of a collective €3.5m from syndicate investors.

"Access to international private equity and new markets is hugely important for the Irish start-up ecosystem. HBAN’s five regional business angel networks, seven industry-specific syndicates and three international syndicates provide high-potential companies with financial support, business expertise, mentorship and contacts – all of which will enable them to grow," John Phelan, national director of HBAN, said.

"Through the three new international syndicates, Irish start-ups can now leverage the local networks of these international angels to provide them with support in targeting the local markets in which they are located."

Since 2007, HBAN angels have invested €85m in 407 separate deals.
