Google's popular startup programme opens up for Irish applicants
Ambitious Irish start-ups are now eligible to enter a programme run by Google which offers mentorship and the chance to compete against European counterparts for a lucrative prize.
The tech giant's Autumn Adopt A Startup scheme will handpick 30 of the most promising up-and-coming firms, who will gain insights from some of the country's most experienced industry experts.
Five category winners of the European Digital Top 50 competition will join 25 Irish startups in the programme, which also runs a series of tailored lectures designed to help the companies tackle the market at a global level.
Paddy Flynn, Director at Google said that the initiative brings together "some of Ireland’s best and brightest entrepreneurs who are making a real difference to Ireland’s start-up community through their innovative and vibrant ideas".
"This next cycle, they will be joined by five European startups and it will be really interesting to see what learnings and experiences they will share with each other," he said.
A pitching competition will run at the end of the 12 weeks, during which eight companies will showcase their business model and plan to a panel of senior Google executives and industry experts.
Up for grabs for the winning company is €10,000 in AdWords credit and eligibility for the Google Cloud Platform for startups which comes with $100,000 in Google Cloud credit.
Seven other startups will also be eligible for the Google Cloud programme, receiving $20,000 in Google Cloud credit.
Kildare-based Terra Liquid Minerals scooped the top prize in the 2018 Spring edition of the programme at the final which was held in Google’s EMEA Headquarters in Dublin.
Managing Director Padraig Hennessy said the insights his team gained while attending the programme "far exceeded our expectations".
"From design thinking to optimising websites and using tools which are freely available has helped us achieve our organisational goals. The help, support and encouragement we received from Google, the program leaders and our team, has helped us grow the businesses," he said.
Applications for the 25 places on the programme are now open and will close on August 24. The chosen few will be announced on September 13.
