UNDERWATER technology firm Cathx is to create 50 jobs in Kildare over the next two years.

The Irish company has just won a contract to supply equipmnet to US underwater vehicle manufacturer Bluefin Robotics.

A range of companies depend on Bluefin's robot submarines for surveys and engineering jobs like pipeline visual surveying.

Jobs minister Richard Bruton said the company has signed a number of contracts in Europe and the US and is boosting its exports as a result.

He was speaking at a trade mission that coincided with the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas.
