A trade trip to the United States is under way this week, with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation leading a delegation to locations including Texas, Ohio and Illinois.

The five-day trip, which has been organised by the IDA and Enterprise Ireland, will take in six cities – Houston, Austin, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland and Grand Rapids.

As part of the trip, 27 companies will take part in 14 meetings and events in Texas as Enterprise Ireland helps them to capitalise on opportunities in the state’s huge oil and gas sector.

“Large US companies in this area need innovative businesses to supply them with goods and services to solve problems thrown up by their rapid growth,” said Minister Richard Bruton. “Irish companies in sectors like engineering and technology can fill this gap. In this way these companies can grow their export sales and ultimately grow their employment in Ireland.”

Another element of the trade trip includes a three-day mission to the Midwest organised by IDA Ireland. That includes 10 meetings with major multinational companies that are primarily focused on the pharma, medical devices and tech sectors

“At the very heart of our Action Plan for Jobs is our determination to drive an export-led recovery,” said Mr Bruton.

The US trade mission is the 20th such international trip Mr Bruton has led in the past three years.
