IE Domain Registry, the company that manages and maintains Ireland's country domain, .ie, has reported its best-ever six-month period for new registrations.

Just over 150 .ie domains were registered on a daily basis between January and the end of June, with increases recorded in 31 of the 32 countries.

Almost two-thirds of the new domains were registered by businesses.

"Virtually every county in Ireland recorded an increase in .ie domain registrations in the first half of 2018," said CEO David Curtin, pictured. "The majority were registered by corporate bodies and sole traders. This is good news: an increase in online activity among businesses is a leading indicator of Ireland's broader economic growth."

Leinster registered the majority of the new domains, accounting for 67pc of all new registrations on the island of Ireland during the six months.

Munster followed, with one-in-five registrations, while Connacht and Ulster recorded 9pc and 5pc of registrations respectively.
