Two energy companies are offering deals for consumers to mark Black Friday.

Both Bord Gáis Energy and Just Energy are offering deeper discounts than usual to mark the US-inspired, price-cutting shopping day.

Bord Gáis is offering a 28pc discount on its standard electricity price, an offer that is set to be the cheapest in the market.

The new tariff will cost customers with average consumption about €811 on electricity over the course of a year, a saving of €161 against standard rates, according to Mark Whelan of price comparison site

The deal is exclusive to and is available until 8am on Monday.

Mr Whelan said: “Bord Gáis Energy’s Black Friday deal is very good news for energy customers as we head into the expensive winter months.”

And new entrant to the market, Just Energy also has a Black Friday offer. New customers can fix dual fuel, electricity or gas prices for two years.

New dual-fuel customers (gas and electricity) can fix prices for two years at a unit rate 14.57c for electricity, and 4.49c for gas (excluding Vat).

This adds up to a one-year spend of €1,530, which is €221 cheaper than standard rates.

Just Energy’s offer is also exclusive to

There is also an electricity-only deal from Just Energy, which allows new electricity customers to fix prices for two years.

Year-one spend will be €910, which is €62 cheaper than standard rates.

Over two years, the cost will be €1,820, which is €124 cheaper than standard rates over two years.

The deals come as seven suppliers have announced price increases and the public service obligation (PSO) levy has gone up in the last few months, meaning that bigger bills are just around the corner for many.

Mr Whelan said: “Energy discounts usually expire after one year, at which time customers are bumped up to expensive standard rates. Just Energy’s deal bucks this trend and gives households the chance to stay on a competitive rate for a full two years.”

He added that Black Friday throws up a lot of gimmicky deals, but the offer from Bord Gáis Energy gives consumers the chance to make some real savings that will benefit them over the course of the next 12 months.
