Retro-style camera a real treat for enthusiasts
Price: €3,350 (with 50mm lens)
Right now, there is a strong fashion toward retro-looking cameras with exalted specifications and lots of manual controls. I confess to being a nerdish fan of these snappers. They're fun as well as powerful. They're also brilliant at encouraging you to 'make' photos, with dials that need to be tweaked to get the right shutter speeds, ISO settings and so on.
Fujifilm, Olympus and Leica have made most of the running up to now. But Nikon is taking it up a notch again. It has shoved a full frame (16-megapixel) sensor into a retro-styled body, capable of taking different lenses.
Like others in this niche category, there is no video on offer here. This is a very pricey machine, costing about the same price as Nikon's D800 or Canon's 5D Mark III. But in the hands of an enthusiast, it'll be a treat.
