Cash the cheque and argue later

Thousands of refund cheques for the first 13,000 tracker mortgage cases identified earlier this year are arriving in the post.

But many people are refusing to cash the cheques as they do not trust the bank or feel they are due more.

Padraic Kissane, an expert in tracker-restoration cases, advised: "Cash the cheque and keep the money.

"You can still appeal the amount and you will not end up with less."

He said cashing the cheque would not have any implications for those who want to use their lender's internal appeal system to dispute the amount or to take a court case.
