We live longer but 60 per cent don't have pensions

Six out of 10 adults don't have a pension, according to a recent survey.

If you're one of these people – or you're unsure if your pension will be enough to support you when you retire, it could be worth visiting the new website launched by the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland (RPC) last week. The website,, offers information on a raft of courses which help people plan for their retirement.

"The fact that people are now living longer and healthier lives means that people's time in retirement may be longer than the time spent in their career," said Paul King, chairperson of the RPC.

"Careful planning for retirement is therefore even more essential than ever before. Preparing for the lifestyle changes as well as the financial implications of retirement is extremely important."

Research has shown that those who plan for retirement live longer and are more content than those who do not, according to the RPC.

The price of two-day retirement planning courses with the RPC starts at €395.
