Payments hike for pensioners
Over 55,000 State pensioners are set to get a hike in their payments early next year.
The Department of Social Protection has written to 79,000 people affected by the budget cuts that had a major impact on women who left work to raise their families.
About 70pc of these people will get increases and the payments are due to be made by the end of next March. In 2012 changes were made to how pension entitlements were calculated. However they have since been changed to a new total contributions approach.
