Consumers can expect more competition in the gas market, after Panda Power announced that it has entered the consumer gas supply market in Ireland.

The company, which is part of the Beauparc Utility Group, now has a presence in the waste, electricity and gas markets in Ireland.

In its announcement today, Panda Power said that its gas offering is available nationwide to all consumers alongside its electricity supply, regardless of whether they are waste customers.

Existing Panda Power, Panda and Greenstar customers will be entitled to the 22pc dual fuel deal, and an additional discount of 22pc off their waste accounts, the company said.

"We expect our 285,000 existing Panda, Greenstar and Panda Power customers to be early adopters and take advantage of the savings on offer," Brendan Traynor, managing director of Panda Power, said.

In developing its new offering the company said that it had required "significant" investment and infrastructure planning, including the expansion of its Dublin-based contact centre to support the new service offering.

The company, which currently employs 50 people, entered the electricity market in 2015, offering green electricity generated from renewable resources such as biogas, solar, wind and wave energy to customers.

Meanwhile, Beauparc has over 285,000 customers and over 30 years’ experience within the utilities industry in Ireland, employing over 1,600 people.
